Week 3 NASFAA & FAFSA Assignment

You will begin this week’s assignment by selecting either the state you live in or a state that you might be interested in knowing more about regarding what they offer for financial aid. Using the NASFAA State Financial Aid web site listing located in this week’s reading section, research what is available to students and parents and answer the following questions:

Did you find the site easy to maneuver through?
List and describe briefly the types of funding (grants, scholarships, loans, loan forgiveness) available to resident students (and parents) of that state. Can the funds be used at schools located out of state?
Does the state offer any saving plans such as a 529 Savings Plan of Pre-paid tuition plan?
Will the student need to complete a separate application?
What is the deadline date to be considered for state financial aid?

Assignment 2:

1. Once you have obtained your PIN, please continue on and complete the FAFSA application.

NOTE: You are not obligated to submit the FAFSA application if you do not want to. However it is important to go through it to know what the questions are. If you’d rather, you can complete the FASFSA4Caster, located on the same web page. This is available for students and families who are interested in knowing how the process works and what their EFC might look like. Or you can download the paper version to answer the questionshttps://www.fafsa.ed.gov/fotw1415/pdf/PdfFafsa14-15.pdf (Links to an external site.)

If you need assistance in completing the FAFSA application, please see the website listed under readings on How to Complete the FAFSA.

Once you have completed the FAFSA, please answer the following:

Share with your classmates your experience on completing the FAFSA application. Did you find it easy? Difficult? How long did it take you? Was any part of the application unclear? Please feel free to include any other comments and or opinions.
